The next day, we found a gift bag with home made bread and home made peach jam on our door step with a sweet note from my dear friend. She may not have thought this was a big thing, but it lifted my spirits. It was a warm reminder that the small things have the biggest impact. She lives a ways out of town, so I know she had to take the time to come in to deliver it. She took time out of her day to make bread and think of me and my family. The bread was wonderfully tasty and there is nothing better than home made jam!
How often in our day do we step back and take a look outside ourselves? I know that the blessings that have come to my life when I do, are far greater than the sacrifice of my time it took to help someone. I appreciate the times when a friend or family member takes the time to pick up the phone and call, just to chat! I love my Mom's texts asking how the day is going when she knows it's been a rough week. We may not know when someone is in need. If we have a desire to serve others, we can pray for the experiences to come and for the Spirit to give us promptings to know who we can serve. I am blessed to have had a few experiences like this. Each time it was something that I felt was very small and insignificant. Little did I know it helped life someone's spirit.
I may never find a cure or solve world peace, but I know that if I can take the time to do small acts of service, that I can do something good. I know we often times feel like we might "offend" or hurt someones feelings if we do something without their permission. We sit back and think, I don't want them to think they can't handle that situation if I step in and help or we think, I don't want to intrude. My new philosophy is that if we serve with the best intentions and with love, that we aren't doing a bad thing. If offense is taken from service, then at least you can walk away saying, I served and I tried. The only failure is not serving others. Be the GOOD in the world!
So when life hands others lemons, take the time to make lemonade and serve!
And to add some spice to this...another fun and amazing video by Alex Boye! (Of course)!
