June 19th, my Mom, Sister, Blake and I took the kids to the Homesteader Museum in Powell. The kids had so much fun seeing all the "old" displays of things of the past! Most of the kids took part in an A to Z scavenger hunt. Some kept with it and some fizzled out but had a good time with it none the less. Grandma was a great sport helping Madie and Ashlee with theirs! One of my favorite things to see was a horse shooting ride that I can remember riding when I was a little girl! It's not operational now, but the kids had fun sitting on it. Ethan didn't want to get off! There were so many things to explore!
The kids found the telephones funny. They couldn't believe phones were hooked to the wall with a cord! There was a telephone there that looked very familiar to the one I grew up with. When we lived in our house in the county we had a phone with a fairly long cord. It was in the living room right next to the kitchen. One day my Mom was talking on the phone in the kitchen and my older brother, Danen and I were playing in the living room. My brother wanted to know what would happen if the telephone cord got cut, so he persuaded me to cut it! So I did! We quickly found out that Mom gets mad! When she walked out to see what had happened to her call, she discovered me with the scissors. She asked me why I would cut the cord. I told her that Danen told me to. She proceeded to ask Danen the same question. He responded, I wanted to know what would happen. She replied...Now you know...I get mad! After that the cord to the phone was much shorter! We laugh about it still to this day!
The dentist office section looked pretty familiar. Things are of course more modern looking now but the concepts of the tools I think are the same. I suppose if I spent more time at the dentists office I would know! Dental-phobia is not a great thing to have. I have to say that I'm glad they don't have spit sinks like they used to.
They had a dress up section that was a huge hit with the kids! I don't think I got a single picture of my niece Megan without a goofy face! She's so silly. We tried to convince Derr that the coral hat was his style but he didn't believe us! I wonder why?!
This fire department section was really neat. I can't imagine wearing the oxygen tank. It looks a bit unreliable. I suppose it was safe or they wouldn't have used them. My favorite part had to be the fire extinguishers. They were so cool looking. I wouldn't want to trust that they would put out a fire, but they sure are neat looking!
They had this little house that you could go in. They had it set up like the Bever Homestead home from 1913. I'm grateful for indoor plumbing. The house did not have a bathroom, which meant going to the oh out house! With as many times as my kids get up to use the restroom in the night I am really happy to have indoor plumbing!
Madie and Ashlee sang us a few songs! Ashlee sang a great rendition of "Let It Go" and Madie and Ashlee together sang "Popcorn Popping" for me!
It was so neat to look back through some of the photos. We were able to find my Grandma and Grandpa Lynn! It was fun to see what they looked like when they were in high school!
Ok, so I could have lived in the pink era!! Fabulous certainly describes these pink gadgets! I think I would have called them accessories if I would have had them back then! I most definitely would have had it all in pink!
My Abby girls has collected rocks for as long as I can remember. She has come home from school before with rocks loading down her coat pockets! I've had to have her return them to their rightful places because she would keep every rock she sees if I'd let her! Naturally she was found oooing and awwwing all the fun rocks! She ran to get me so I would take pictures of her favorites!
Ethan LOVES trains! I think he and his Daddy had fun exploring the train.
I think I love vintage clothes and purses as much or more than Ethan loves trains! I find vintage style so elegant and intriguing. I think it is just so beautiful! Now, they had this display of a hairdryer system that would have been in hair salons! Call me crazy, but there is no way I would have had my hair all hooked up to a system like that! I love my hair done, but I have my limits of insanity! That is just too much for me!
