(Side story...We had a slight injury during the sanding process. Abby was outside with Brandon while he was sanding and some of the dust got in her eye. By that night it looked and felt horrible. Thankfully we have a wonderful neighbor who happens to be an eye doctor who helped us out! It took a couple of days but thanks to the eye drops, her eye healed nicely!)
The night of the pack meeting was a bit rough for the leaders. They are all amazing and worked so hard to get it to work right but the clips kept breaking and things just weren't working out the way they had planned. I felt so bad for them. The den mother from our ward, Aubrey, was helping hold one of the rockets when the line was bumped by another leader, shooting one of the rockets right at Aubrey's head and the propeller hit her ear and cut it! It bled for quiet a long time. We even found ice in the freezer and tried that to get it to stop!
Some of the boys' rockets broke after flying off the clips. It was just a sad night for some of them. I felt so bad for the leaders. They truthfully worked so hard to get everything working right and it just never clicked. Brandon had a fun time and was one of the lucky ones. His rocket went a little ways down the line and tied the race he was lucky enough that they were able to get going. This was the first time that the head leader had tried the rockets and he said he it was worth trying but that he wouldn't ever do it again. He felt so bad for the boys and I think we all felt bad for all of them. It wasn't anyone's fault. I think everyone had a good time with what did work despite the setbacks. I know Brandon did. And the most important part of it all was getting to spend quality time with his Dad!
